The Gettysburg Green Gathering “Plant a Tree for Adams County” is accepting tax-deductible donations of $300 to sponsor the planting and maintenance of a memorial or honorary tree. Sponsorship includes a plaque placed with the tree. Sponsors can help with the memorial tree planting and are updated with the tree location after planting. Donations are used to offset the cost of the tree planting and ongoing maintenance. Sponsors receive a certificate about species of tree and location of planting.
The benefits of trees are extraordinary. Trees provide food, energy and income to help communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability. Trees also filter the air and help reverse the impacts of climate change. In just one year, a mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen as 10 people inhale!
Many tree planting initiatives rely on saplings resulting in many saplings not achieving a mature tree status (survival
rates are typically below 40%).
“Plant a Tree for Adams County” uses larger, native trees that translate to better survival rates. Trees will be planted at parks and schools throughout Adams County. Tree planting “outings” are planned throughout the year for community members to help plant a tree!
